Children's Liturgy – Held during the 9:30am mass at Our Lady of Mount Carmel, the children gather in a separate location during the readings and homily. Our group teaches a lesson based around that week's readings to those children. We need both teacher and assistant volunteers. You can sign up for one week or several. Lesson plan guidance is provided. Please reach out to Angela Krempel for more information.
Charity Outreach – We have partnered with The Nurturing Place, a home and school for mothers requiring assistance in Jersey City. Donations of food, supplies and money are collected throughout the year. Events are also held to raise funds. Drivers are needed to transport donations monthly. Requests are sent via email to all members. If you'd like more information please contact Stephanie Springer.
Circle of Care/SHARE Meals – Circle of Care is a service provided by MOMs members to MOMS members who are in need of help, in the form of meals, transportation or visits. A new baby, medical condition, death or family emergency qualifies a MOMS member for help. Please let us know if you are in need or willing to help. Your time and effort to help another family is very valuable. Meals can be as easy as picking up a pizza. We need as many willing volunteers as possible.
Community Thrift Shop – We have partnered with The Community Thrift Shop in Midland Park. (85 Godwin Ave, Midland Park, NJ / 201.652.7661)
There are three ways you can participate.
Hospitality – This group helps to provide a sense of community and connection to our monthly meetings. Each meeting has two to three members that serve as greeters and oversee room set-up. If you are interested in helping out, please contact Polly Lau.
OLMC Block Party – This kick-off festival to the school year is hosted by Our Lady of Mount Carmel. Our MOMs group runs two stations: spin art and icee machine. Volunteers and needed for 1 hour time slots. If you are also a member of When Families Gather (WFG) your hour will double your monthly service activity. Kids enjoy helping with this as well.
Family Service Day – Participate in a fun-filled day where we will work with our families on a community-based service project TBD in the spring of 2024. Past projects have included painting at Camp Sunshine - a summer camp that serves children in need, planting flowers at Eastern Christian Retreat House, and sending homemade gifts to The Share Houses in Ridgewood.
